iPhoneography #18 — Mobile Photowalk

A week and a half ago, I organized 6 friends, 5 dogs to make 4 stops for beer and it was a great success. We started at the Dali Museum and walked to a number of places around downtown St. Pete. I loved it. I’m not going to prattle on much more about it. Here are the results. Many of these are edited on my phone with a few minor touchup using Snapseed on my desktop.

Scott Kelby Photowalk 2012

A year or so ago I heard about Scott Kelby’s photo walk. Scott is a photographer out of Tampa and is a master of photoshop. To train myself for this event, I watched 2 videos, a week with Jay Meisel and a day with Jay Meisel. I’m not going to say that some of my shots weren’t inspired by his work, but for the most part, I tried to be as original as possible.

Our walk started in Ybor city at the trolley. I got off pretty quick and hit the  main strip. The day was awesome; great weather, great cigars and photos.

In Her Sewing Room

Hey everyone,

If you’re following a lot, you noticed that my posting/shooting slowed down. I was a little down when my Seven by Five profile didn’t gain a lot of traction. It’s strange to think of the ego that goes along with our photography. I guess a lot of people aren’t too surprised at this and honestly, I’m not REALLY surprised by it. However, it’s there. It’s something that we all contend with. Will our ego be our downfall and will it interfere with our growth and development?

Now, while I say I was down… it wasn’t the source of the slow down for posting. In fact, I’ve been busy looking for a new job and considering new projects regarding the law. I’m actually licensed to practice now. That is really the essence of the slow down.

Furthermore, the only slow down has been in the posting, not the shooting. I’ll be posting some work over the next week from the last few days of shooting.

Finally, I want to mention that I got a 30-day pass to Kelby Training. Scott Kelby is a photographer out of Tampa, whose studio is in Oldsmar. I ran into one of his assistants during a Craigslist trade and he was kind enough to look into a brief membership for me. Today’s postings were inspired by listening to a video of Kelby with Jay Maisel.

A Rainy Day in Saint Petersburg

My friend Steve called me up yesterday. He’s a newcomer to photography and recently entered the hobby by buying a D5100. I introduced Steve to photo walking two years ago when I wanted to play with Bokeh.

Anyways, Steve wanted to take a walk yesterday. I suggested downtown St. Pete. While somewhat hesitant, since we’ve gone there a number of times, he agreed. I explained that I love going to that area for a number of reasons, but mostly because I feel it’s a challenge to know the area and find new images.

I took my D7000 and a 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Sigma lens that I bought at the beginning of the summer. Let me start by saying that the lens has shit reviews, well…. you tell me how shit it is:
